The Federal Government has pledged an all-out effort to secure the release of female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, when armed gunmen stormed the school, killing a staff member and kidnapping several students, according to local reports.

In a statement shared on his verified 𝕏 account, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed the government’s solidarity with the victims’ families. He quoted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reaffirming that protecting Nigerians—particularly schoolchildren—is a core responsibility of the state.

Describing the attack as “reprehensible,” Idris said that security and intelligence agencies have been given direct instructions to locate the kidnapped students and ensure their safe return.

“We will not relent until these students are back home and the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the minister said.

Idris highlighted that the government is also focused on preventing future attacks through ongoing reforms in the security sector.

“Strengthening internal security is a top priority,” he noted. “The Federal Government is recalibrating military, police, and intelligence operations to respond faster and more effectively to threats.”

The minister further pointed to regional cooperation efforts, including partnerships with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force, aimed at securing borders and dismantling terrorist and criminal networks.

Confirming the attack on its WhatsApp platform, the Nigeria Police Force reported that officers had engaged the assailants in a gunfight before they fled with the students. Tactical units, the military, and other security agencies have since been deployed to track the gunmen, combing suspected routes and surrounding forests.
