Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Officially Joins APC, Cites Vision for State Development

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during a press conference held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, marking a significant political shift in the South-East region of Nigeria.

A Decision Rooted in Reflection and Development

Governor Mbah expressed that his decision was the result of “long reflection” and a commitment to pursuing broader developmental goals for Enugu State.

He emphasized that leadership sometimes requires making “difficult, even painful decisions” for the greater good, and that it was time to make a bold move to shape the state’s destiny.

Gratitude to the PDP

In his address, Mbah extended his gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided during his political journey.

He acknowledged the party’s support during the campaign and the subsequent victory, stating, “To the Peoples Democratic Party, which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude.”

Mass Defection from Enugu State Government

Governor Mbah’s defection is part of a larger political realignment in Enugu State.

Reports indicate that several members of his cabinet, including commissioners and top aides, have also joined the APC.

A video shared by Mbah’s Senior Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, shows government officials openly declaring their allegiance to the APC, chanting praises for President Bola Tinubu, and affirming their commitment to the new party.

Implications for Enugu’s Political Landscape

This mass defection marks a significant shift in Enugu State’s political landscape, which has been a PDP stronghold since 1999.

Political analysts suggest that Mbah’s move could strengthen the APC’s presence in the South-East region and potentially alter the dynamics of future elections.

His defection is seen as a strategic move to align with a party that shares his vision for the state’s development and to leverage federal support for ongoing and future projects.
