Lagos State’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, has enthusiastically confirmed that the state is entirely ready to host the 2022 edition of the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST). During a recent media tour of the festival venue, the iconic National Stadium in Surulere, Akinbile-Yusuf declared that all preparations for this highly anticipated event are fully finalized and poised for a successful launch.
Scheduled to take place from November 7 to 13, this year’s NAFEST is expected to be the most memorable celebration in the festival’s history. The commissioner emphasized that this edition will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria while attracting participants and spectators from all over the country. She assured festival-goers that comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure their safety and enjoyment, including enhancements in infrastructure, security protocols, transportation logistics, and various activities planned for the event.
Akinbile-Yusuf praised Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support and commitment to ensuring that all preparations were completed on time. “As you can see, we are 100% ready to host Eko NAFEST. All hands are on deck to ensure that our culture of excellence matches the significant support we have received from Governor Sanwo-Olu,” she stated confidently.
Highlighting the governor’s promise to make this year’s NAFEST an unforgettable event, she noted, “He has not only made a commitment but has also backed it with substantial action. The successful rebranding of the National Stadium into a remarkable facility is a testament to that.” Akinbile-Yusuf mentioned that the stadium has undergone significant renovations and improvements, transforming it into a modern venue that all Lagosians can take pride in.
The commissioner also noted that all relevant security agencies and government bodies are collaborating closely with the Ministry of Tourism to ensure a seamless and successful festival experience. As the anticipated number of tourists continues to rise daily, she assured that adequate accommodations would be available to cater to all attendees, emphasizing the state’s commitment to hospitality.
Referring to a recent report, Akinbile-Yusuf shared that Lagos has been rated the 56th safest city in the world, which she believes will reassure potential tourists about their safety during the festival. In addition to security, the state has devised a series of creative programs to enrich the 35th NAFEST, which will include an entertainment city featuring vibrant nightlife and exciting concerts, thereby enhancing the overall festival experience.
She expressed her enthusiasm about involving various stakeholders from tourism, arts, culture, and hospitality sectors in the festival, anticipating a successful turnout that will lead to profitable sales for businesses and local artisans. Akinbile-Yusuf confirmed that local government areas throughout the state would also actively participate in the event, showcasing their unique cultural offerings.
“Hosting this NAFEST is a source of joy for me, as it allows me to reconnect with my brothers and sisters from across the nation without the need for extensive travel,” she expressed. “As a state, we are thrilled because this is a tremendous opportunity to boost our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and ensure we collect essential data for future reference and planning.” The commissioner concluded by encouraging everyone to attend the festival and experience the rich tapestry of Nigerian culture.
