Everything is ready for the 18th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), which will take place at the Jewel Aeida Hall in Lekki, Lagos, tomorrow.

The hosts of the awards gala night have been confirmed as popular comedian and MC Funnybone, TV program presenter Kachi Offia, and comedienne/actress Chioma “Chigul” Omeruah. Tope Ajayi, the AMAA’s director of media, made a statement that included this information.

Along with nominees from the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, nominees from various regions of the continent—including Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana—have already arrived in Lagos for the show.

Morris Mugisha, one of the candidates, whose movie “Tembele” received ten nominations, expressed happiness and enthusiasm upon landing in Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday, October 26, 2022.

It’s wonderful to be returning to AMAA in Lagos, Nigeria. Our movie, “Tembele,” received ten nominations, so I’m excited to choose a few winners,” Mugisha remarked.

In the meantime, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State and official chief host of AMAA, has assured nominees from various African nations and the diaspora that they will have a great time in the city. Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that everything is prepared for an amazing and unforgettable awards ceremony, having pledged to host the continental awards celebration for four years starting in 2021.

The headliners of the award ceremony, which included Juju icon King Sunny Ade, P-Square, Kate Henshaw, Young Jon, Zadok, and Yinka Davies, were revealed by the AMAA organizers on October 25. Additionally announced for the awards ceremony are Gerald Eze, DJ Kenchello, Veentage Band, Ayo Bankole, and Matty.

Similarly, StarTimes Nigeria, the AMAAs’ official media partner, reaffirmed its intention to stream the awards show live on ST Nollywood Channel 131 and STNollywood Plus Channel 102.

Prayer sessions at the Agege Central Mosque and St. Dominic Catholic Church in Yaba kicked off the AMAA 2022 week-long events. Subsequently, 890 students who had benefited from the African Film Academy’s “Film in a Box” program, which was run in partnership with the Lagos State Government and aimed to train and empower youth in the creative business, graduated from three distinct centers: Alimosho, Epe, and Badagry.

A number of dignitaries attended the graduation event, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Pharm Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

The radio and TV tour carried on throughout the week-long events until Friday, October 28, when a music and film convention took place at Jewel Aeida Hall in Lekki. The AMAA Fashion show took place at the same location and on the same day as the film and music conference.

The originator of AMAA, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, expressed her happiness over the events by stating, “All I can say is that the 2022 AMAAs will blow your mind away.” It will be a mix of glamour and glitz along with a prize for genuine talent and professionalism.

According to Kingsley James, show director and content coordinator for AMAA, the events leading up to the 18th edition of the show are a sign of things to come for a memorable edition in 2022.
