JAMB Remits N5bn to Federal Government, Addresses Result Access Challenges

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government following the successful completion of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, revealed that out of the N5 billion, the government returned N2 billion to the board to support its operations.

However, many candidates have reported difficulties in accessing their UTME results via the prescribed method. JAMB had instructed candidates to send a text message with the word “RESULT” to a specific code, 55019, using the same phone numbers they registered with. Despite this, several candidates and parents, including Mrs. Bridget Otuagha and Mrs. Florence Ibem, expressed frustration as their children were unable to obtain their results despite multiple attempts.

Benjamin acknowledged the issue and apologized, attributing the problem to technical challenges from the service providers. He assured affected candidates that JAMB is working closely with the service providers to resolve the issue promptly. Benjamin also mentioned that after ensuring candidates can access their results via text, the results will be posted on JAMB’s website for printing.

JAMB has withheld the results of 34,120 candidates over suspected examination malpractice, while 15,145 results are under review for further clarification, such as in cases involving identical twins or siblings.
