The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed rumors that it is reducing candidates’ scores for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). In a statement issued by JAMB’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified that the report circulating on social media is false.
The false claim suggested that JAMB was cutting 100 marks from the scores of candidates who were allegedly found wanting. According to JAMB, an investigation traced the fake news to a group in Igarra, Edo State, with affiliates in other states.
“The rumors are part of an attempt to defraud parents and candidates,” Dr. Benjamin said. He added that candidates will receive their results via their registered phone numbers once the ongoing review of the examination centers is complete.
Benjamin also warned candidates and parents to disregard these false reports and rely only on official communications from JAMB to avoid being scammed.
