The Chairman of Elohim City in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Timiebibo Abiye, has revealed that residents of the community are contributing money to pay teachers at the local government-run primary school.
Speaking during a meeting organized by the Ijaw Community Peace and Development Organization (ICPDO) in Bomadi, Mr. Abiye expressed concern over the dire state of education in the Elohim City Primary School. According to him, the school only has two teachers – the headmaster and one other staff member.
“Our children are suffering because there are no teachers to provide them with the education they deserve,” he said. “We, as a community, had no choice but to hire four teachers ourselves, paying them a modest N10,000 per month.”
Mr. Abiye called on the Delta State Ministry of Education to address the situation immediately, stressing the urgency of providing more teachers for the school. “We are pleading with the authorities to intervene quickly and ease the burden on the community,” he added.
