MTN Opens Applications for Fourth Media Innovation Programme

MTN Nigeria has officially opened applications for the fourth edition of its Media Innovation Programme (MIP).
The six-month fellowship will train media professionals on the fast-changing media and technology landscape.
The programme begins on May 19, 2025, and is being organised in collaboration with the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University (PAU).

According to a statement released on Monday, the programme is open to journalists, broadcasters, bloggers, and content creators on social media platforms.
MTN described the programme as part of its ongoing commitment to empowering storytellers and shaping the future of media practice in Nigeria.

MTN Aims to Build Future-Focused Media Professionals

Tobe Okigbo, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, explained why the company launched MIP in 2022.
He said the goal was to help media professionals report better and understand the digital economy more deeply.

“When we launched MIP, we wanted to boost media professionals’ understanding of technology and enhance how they report stories,” he said.
“Now, three years later, the impact has been inspiring. So, we’re proud to open this opportunity to a new set of participants.”

International Study Experience in South Africa

As part of the fellowship, participants will travel to the University of Johannesburg in South Africa.
There, they will experience firsthand how media and technology operate in a global context.
This study trip will expand their knowledge and expose them to fresh ideas they can apply back home.

In addition to the international visit, Fellows will take part in workshops, lectures, and media labs throughout the six-month period.
Each session will combine practical insights with industry case studies, ensuring participants gain the right tools for success.

Pan-Atlantic University Promises Creative and Ethical Training

Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean of the School of Media and Communication at PAU, also shared his thoughts.
He stressed that today’s media space requires creativity, integrity, and constant innovation.

“In a fast-changing media landscape, we need professionals who combine creative skills with strong ethical values,” he said.
“Our role at PAU is to offer training that blends technical expertise with deep professional responsibility.”

Dr. Obiaya added that PAU will use its vast training experience to guide the 2025 cohort.
He confirmed the university’s focus remains on developing well-rounded media leaders who are ready for the future.

Fellows Will Graduate With Valuable Tools and Networks

At the end of the programme, 20 selected participants will officially become MIP Fellows.
