In H1’22, exports via Apapa port increased by 8,525% — Customs

Compared to the same period last year, HI’21, exports through Apapa port increased by 8,525 percent in the half-year 2022, HI’22.

Malanta Yusuf, the Customs Area Controller, CAC of Apapa Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, stated during his command performance on Friday that the Free-On-Board, or FOB, of exports for the first half of 2022 was $138 million (N6.21 billion), as opposed to $1.6 million (N720 million) during the same period the previous year.

The head of Apapa Customs credited the Federal Government’s export program for the rise in exports.

He said, “The command recorded a boom in the exportation of non-oil commodities with about 2.5 million metric tonnes, above the five hundred and forty thousand (540) metric tonnes in the year 2021, in line with the Federal government’s efforts to diversify the economy through non-oil export.”

Additionally, the export goods’ Free on Board (FOB) value increased from $1.6 million in 2021 to $138 million in 2022. Among other things, steel bars, agricultural products, and mineral products are exported.

He pointed out that “export incentive programs and Federal Government policy have been crucial in increasing export trade in Nigeria.”

Regarding collections, he stated, “The command collected N522.4 billion in revenue during the period under review.” Compared to the N366.5 billion naira collected in the same months of 2021, this indicates a notable rise of N156 billion, or 42.5%, in revenue collection.

“Our officers’ perseverance in making sure that identified revenue leaks have been minimized while maintaining the degree of compliance by the importers/stakeholders in the clearance value chain made this accomplishment possible.”
