Apple is facing a growing issue over the delayed rollout of its flagship AI features to iPhones and other devices. On Wednesday, March 19, a lawsuit was filed in a U.S. district court in San Jose, California, accusing Apple of false advertising regarding its Apple Intelligence features.
Lawsuit Claims Misleading Advertising
The lawsuit seeks damages for customers who purchased iPhones and other devices marketed as supporting Apple Intelligence. It claims that these customers have yet to receive the generative AI features Apple promised last year. “Apple’s advertisements created a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these transformative features would be available upon the iPhone’s release,” the lawsuit states. It also alleges that Apple misled consumers about the utility and performance of its AI capabilities, offering limited or entirely absent versions of Apple Intelligence.
Struggles in Bringing AI to Market
This legal action comes as Apple faces increasing pressure to deliver on its AI promises. Recent reports suggest that Apple is struggling to bring Apple Intelligence to market. Earlier this month, Apple announced delays in its AI improvements to voice assistant Siri, with the new features now expected to be ready by 2026.
Leadership Changes Amid AI Development Challenges
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple CEO Tim Cook has reshuffled the executive team after losing confidence in John Giannandrea, the head of AI, over product development issues. Mike Rockwell, the vice president in charge of the Vision Products Group, is now reportedly leading efforts to develop and release the AI-enhanced version of Siri.
