Security Operative Killed in Violent Attack by Proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria in Abuja

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has confirmed the killing of a security operative during a violent attack by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN). The incident occurred on Friday around the Banex Plaza area in Wuse 2, Abuja.

Details of the Attack

In a statement released on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, reported that 19 suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack. The assault took place at approximately 2:20 p.m. when the command received a distress call about a violent confrontation involving security personnel and members of the IMN.

Adeh stated that the attackers were armed with firearms, cutlasses, catapults, sticks, stones, petrol bombs, and other lethal weapons. When police and security personnel arrived at the scene, they encountered heavy gunfire from the assailants. The gunfire resulted in serious injuries to three security operatives, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the National Hospital.

Swift Response and Ongoing Investigation

Adeh assured the public that normalcy had been restored in the area following the attack. She confirmed that investigations were underway to ensure that all those responsible for the violent assault would be brought to justice.

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Mr. Ajao Adewale, strongly condemned the unprovoked attack. He emphasized that steps were being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and reiterated that attacks on security operatives would not be tolerated.
