The Imo State Police Command has arrested a landlord after he shot a boy named Paul. The boy had jumped into the landlord’s house to retrieve a football during a game. The incident took place on Monday at the Urban Secondary School field in Area N, World Bank Housing Estate, Owerri.
Ball Ends Up in Landlord’s Yard
Paul and his classmates were playing football when the ball accidentally landed in the landlord’s yard. As Paul tried to retrieve the ball, the landlord shot him in the waist, leaving him critically injured. He fell to the ground in severe pain.
Police Confirm Arrest and Investigation
The Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest. He stated that the landlord was in custody and that an investigation was underway. Okoye also mentioned that Paul was receiving treatment at the hospital.
Guardian’s Concerns and Request for Privacy
Paul’s guardian, Jonathan Odikanwa, expressed concern for his son’s health. He stated that he did not wish to escalate the matter at that time. Odikanwa said, “I just want my boy to survive this critical period.” Despite his son’s painful condition, Odikanwa requested privacy until after the surgery.
Medical Update on Paul’s Condition
According to Odikanwa, an X-ray showed that no bullet was lodged in Paul’s body. However, doctors were concerned that his bowel movements weren’t functioning properly. Paul was scheduled for surgery to investigate the cause of the problem. “He’s been crying for water,” Odikanwa added, “but the doctors are focused on understanding the bowel issue.”
Paul’s Background and Family Situation
Paul has been living with the Odikanwa family for about eight years. He began his schooling with them and is currently in JSS 1 at Urban Secondary School Owerri. Odikanwa remains focused on his son’s recovery, asking for prayers during this difficult time.
