Lagos Police Confirm Discovery of Grave, Arrest Prime Suspect in LASU Graduate’s Murder frontpage news

The Lagos State Police Command has found the shallow grave where kidnappers buried Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU). Officers arrested Olaoluwa Ajisomo, the prime suspect, after tracking him down in Alakuko, Lagos on Monday morning.

Earlier reports claimed Ajisomo had fled to Benin Republic, but detectives successfully located and apprehended him. By Tuesday, officers had moved to exhume Ogunbode’s remains.

Suspect Confesses and Police Trace Money Transfers

Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, confirmed Ajisomo’s arrest and the grave’s discovery. He revealed that Ajisomo accessed Ogunbode’s bank account through his mobile phone and withdrew all funds after the murder.

Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, went missing on January 16, 2025. Reports later surfaced about a mutilated body, raising concerns about his fate.

Officers had already arrested three other suspects and continued searching for five more connected to the case. Police detained Pastor Whepetoji Sunday after uncovering a N70,000 transaction from the victim’s account. Another suspect, Sheriff Adebayo, allegedly received N300,000.

Authorities also arrested Omolara Ajisomo, the prime suspect’s mother, for helping her children escape. Both Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo reportedly took N300,000 each from the victim’s account before fleeing.

Heightened Security Amid Student Protests

The LASU Students’ Union threatened a statewide protest, demanding justice for Ogunbode. In response, Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.

Police dismissed rumors that officers found the grave within a church compound. Instead, they confirmed its location elsewhere in the community. Meanwhile, officers sealed off the church where Pastor Sunday worshipped after learning about a planned arson attack in retaliation.

“We sealed the church after receiving intelligence that some people planned to burn it down out of vengeance,” Hundeyin stated.

Next Steps in the Investigation

A source close to the investigation confirmed that Ajisomo had confessed to the murder. Police detectives immediately moved toward the burial site for further action.

“I just received information that the suspect admitted to killing the LASU graduate,” the source revealed. “Police are now heading to the location to exhume the body.”

When asked for confirmation, Hundeyin simply responded, ‘Confirmed.’

With the prime suspect in custody and police recovering Ogunbode’s remains, detectives continue working to ensure justice and arrest all individuals involved in the crime.
