Electricity Worker Electrocuted in Lagos

Heat Stress Alert Highlights Nigeria's Power Sector Challenges

A 42-year-old electricity worker was electrocuted in Ebute Metta, Lagos. The incident happened on Monday at 8:15 pm.

Details of the Incident

The victim was repairing faulty electrical wires at Borno Way by Ayodele Junction when the accident occurred. Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the worker was reconnecting the wires when he was electrocuted. The victim was quickly rescued and rushed to the hospital. However, he was confirmed dead by a doctor upon arrival.

Police Investigation and Hospital Procedures

Hundeyin stated that detectives visited the scene and the hospital. They inspected and photographed the body before taking it to the morgue for autopsy. The police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.

Similar Electrocution Incident Earlier This Year

This incident follows another tragic electrocution. In January, an electrician named Sheni was electrocuted while working at UNILAG Estate in Magodo, Lagos. He had been called to fix a power outage around 5 pm on New Year’s Day. As he was fixing the wiring, electricity was unexpectedly restored, leading to his electrocution.

Safety Concerns for Electrical Workers

These incidents highlight the risks faced by electricians. Both cases stress the need for better safety protocols. Ensuring worker protection and proper training could reduce such fatalities in the future. Electrical companies must enforce safety measures to protect workers from harm.
