Bauchi Woman Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Husband Over Child Custody Dispute

Adamawa Police Arrest Two for Gruesome Murder of 10-Year-Old Boy

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 25-year-old Salamatu Danjuma, a resident of Nadabo village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic dispute.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, the tragic incident stemmed from a prolonged disagreement over the custody of their six-year-old daughter.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

Police investigations reveal that the couple had been in constant conflict regarding who would take custody of their child.

“Despite initial discussions with her family that seemed to favour welcoming the child into their home, the husband later refused, which heightened tensions between them,” Wakil explained.

The disagreement escalated into a heated argument, during which Salamatu, in a fit of rage, grabbed a knife from their bedroom and fatally stabbed her husband.

Police Response and Death Confirmation

Following a distress call, detectives from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to the Cottage Hospital in Bununu for urgent medical attention.

Unfortunately, medical staff later confirmed the husband’s death due to the severity of the injuries sustained.

Police Investigation Underway

In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

“A discreet and comprehensive investigation is ongoing, after which appropriate legal action will be taken,” the police statement added.

Authorities have urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to domestic disputes and avoid acts of violence that could lead to tragic consequences.
