A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order directing the Nigeria Police Force to maintain the status quo regarding the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy until the determination of a lawsuit challenging its legality.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had filed the lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over the policy, which mandates that vehicle owners with tinted windows obtain annual permits.

The NBA contends that the policy is unlawful and infringes upon citizens’ rights.

In response to the court’s directive, the Nigeria Police Force has stated that it will comply with the order and suspend any further enforcement actions related to the tinted glass permit requirement until the court delivers its judgment.

The court’s decision has been met with mixed reactions from the public. Some motorists have expressed relief, citing concerns over the legality and fairness of the policy, while others have criticized the delay in enforcement, arguing that it undermines efforts to enhance national security.

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety. It has also urged citizens to report any instances of extortion or misconduct by officers at checkpoints.
