South Korean Singer Wheesung Found Dead at 43, Autopsy Planned frontpage news

South Korean singer Wheesung was found dead in his apartment, his management, Tajoy Entertainment confirmed on Tuesday. Emergency responders discovered his unconscious body at 6:29 p.m. on Monday after his mother called for help.

Local police reported no signs of foul play but stated that a significant amount of time had passed since his death. Authorities have requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Career and Struggles

Wheesung debuted in 2002 and quickly gained fame in South Korea for his soulful performances and chart-topping songs like “With Me”. He also gained international recognition for covering Craig David’s “Insomnia.”

Despite his musical success, Wheesung’s career declined in 2021 after receiving a suspended jail sentence for abusing propofol, a surgical anesthetic. The drug, which caused Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, is sometimes misused recreationally.

Final Social Media Post and Upcoming Concert

Wheesung had been preparing for a concert in Daegu scheduled for March 16. In his last social media post, he excitedly shared: “Weight loss completed. See you on March 15.”

Fans and fellow artists were shocked by his sudden passing, as he had expressed enthusiasm about future performances.

Tributes from Fellow Artists and Fans

The South Korean music industry mourned Wheesung’s death. Rapper Verbal Jint paid tribute, saying: “Every moment we spent together was an honor. You’ve worked so hard. Rest in peace, Wheesung.”

Another rapper, Paltoalto, expressed sadness, recalling how Wheesung’s music shaped his youth: “It’s shocking and sad. I’m grateful for the music that accompanied my good memories.”

Fans also shared emotional tributes online. One wrote: “At your concert on December 23, you said you’d sing until you’re 60. I never thought that would be the last time I’d hear your voice… Goodbye, my idol, Wheesung.”

Another South Korean Celebrity Death

Wheesung’s death follows another tragic loss in South Korean entertainment. Last month, actress Kim Sae-ron, 24, was found dead at home. Her career struggled after a drunk-driving accident in 2022, leaving her unable to secure acting roles.

As South Korea mourns another beloved star, the entertainment industry reflects on the pressures faced by artists in the spotlight.
