CAF INSPECTION: Youth and Sports Commissioner Says “Akwa Ibom Is Ready To Host The CAF Champions League Final.”

The government of Akwa Ibom State has stated that it is prepared to host the 2021–2022 CAF Champions League Final. During a visit of the state’s facilities, CAF Inspectors were informed of the state government’s stance by Sir Monday Ebong Uko, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports.

Mr. Edidiong Stephen, the Youths and Sports Commissioner’s media assistant, provided the media with this information as well as other specifics on today’s inspection.

A group of CAF officials examined the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state, on Sunday in light of its designation as one of the potential venues to host this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League and Confederation Cup final matches.

The tour guide and Akwa Ibom state commissioner for youth and sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, welcomed the CAF team from Cairo, Egypt, which consisted of Inas Ahmed Fahmy Ahmed and Shenouda Emad Kamel George. They were accompanied by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Club Licensing Officer, Mr. Nasiru Jibril, along with the state’s management staff and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey.

In addition to thanking His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel for selecting Uyo as one of the possible cities to host the continental showpiece’s grand finale, Mr. Uko gave the guests the assurance that, should the nomination be approved, the government would be prepared to supply the logistics needed to organize an unforgettable event.

Speaking at the conclusion of the inspection tour, Mr. Inas Ahmed, the delegation leader, expressed his satisfaction with the stadium’s amenities, citing its natural grass as one of the best on the continent. He also promised to vividly report to the CAF hierarchy everything he saw while on the ground.

Among the ancillary locations that were visited were the Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital and the Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort.

While the final CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches have been set for the end of May 2022, a draw will be place on April 5 following the quarterfinals and semi-finals drawings to identify the “home” team for administrative purposes.
