The family of reality television star and Big Brother Naija Season 7 champion, Phyna, has confirmed the painful death of her sister, Ruth Otabor.
In a statement released by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, the family disclosed that Ruth passed away at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the family statement read.
The family further appealed for privacy as they mourn, while assuring the public that funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
The sad news comes barely weeks after Ruth’s life took a tragic turn. On August 13, 2025, she was hit by a truck allegedly linked to Dangote Group around Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, leading to the amputation of her leg. The crash happened only days after she had joyfully graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Unfortunately, she did not survive the trauma.
Her untimely death has raised concerns about the dangers of poorly regulated heavy-duty trucks in Nigeria, a recurring issue that has devastated several families.
