Baba Ijesha Regains Freedom After Court of Appeal Clears Him of Conviction

Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison after spending over three years incarcerated on charges related to alleged sexual assault.

His release on Friday, November 14, 2025, followed a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which reportedly overturned the earlier judgment that led to his imprisonment.

The decision effectively cleared the actor of the offences for which he had been convicted.

The news of his freedom was first announced by fellow actor Yomi Fabiyi, who took to Instagram to celebrate the development.

In his post, Fabiyi stated that Baba Ijesha had been “officially freed” and welcomed him back, noting that the appellate court’s decision marked a significant turning point.

According to Fabiyi, the ruling affirmed that Baba Ijesha did not commit the acts for which he had been previously found guilty.

The actor used the opportunity to voice strong opinions about the original case, insisting that the judicial process had been flawed and influenced by public sentiment. He described the controversy as one of the most polarizing episodes in recent Nollywood history.

Fabiyi also addressed several issues surrounding the case, presenting claims and concerns raised over the years by supporters of the embattled actor.

He argued that certain aspects of the investigation and public discourse had been mishandled, stating that he and his human rights group would continue to advocate for fairness, due process, and the protection of minors in all legal matters.

However, his comments also included serious allegations against individuals connected to the matter—claims which have not been independently verified. As of press time, those mentioned have not publicly responded to Fabiyi’s statements.

Fabiyi further emphasized that his advocacy group does not condone abuse in any form and remains committed to defending lawful and unbiased justice. He described the appellate court’s verdict as a reaffirmation of the rule of law.
