Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other prominent Nigerians on Tuesday visited the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The visit comes shortly after Oba Ladoja’s emergence as the 44th Olubadan, following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
The traditional installation has drawn attention across the country, given Oba Ladoja’s extensive political background and the strategic significance of Ibadan in Nigeria’s sociopolitical landscape.
High-Level Delegation in Attendance
The visiting delegation included senior political figures, traditional titleholders, and associates of the new monarch.
Atiku Abubakar, who spoke briefly during the visit, congratulated Oba Ladoja and described his emergence as a “welcomed development” for the people of Ibadan.
He noted that the former governor’s background in governance and leadership placed him in a strong position to serve as a unifying figure across Ibadanland.
Also present was former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who paid his respects without making a public statement.
Other dignitaries in attendance included members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and ex-senator, is expected to officially ascend the throne in a coronation ceremony scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
He becomes one of the few Nigerian traditional rulers with a significant history in elective public office.

Background
Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, 79, officially became the Olubadan following the conclusion of succession processes overseen by the Olubadan-in-Council.
His rise through the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy, combined with his political track record, has generated renewed interest in the role of the Olubadan in regional and national affairs.
