Anambra Traditional Rulers Confer 'Dike Si Mba' Title on President Tinubu

In a momentous event that underscored the deepening ties between the federal government and Anambra State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was bestowed with the esteemed chieftaincy title of Dike Si Mba, translating to Hero from Another Land, by the collective body of traditional rulers in the state. This significant cultural honor was conferred during the President’s official visit to Anambra on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

A Ceremonial Welcome and Cultural Recognition

President Tinubu arrived at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri around midday, where he was warmly received by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Deputy Governor Onyeka Ibezim, and other top government officials. The conferment ceremony took place in Awka, the state capital, with traditional rulers from various communities in attendance, led by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi.

The title “Dike Si Mba” is traditionally reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to communities outside their own, symbolizing respect and appreciation from the host community. By bestowing this title on President Tinubu, the traditional rulers acknowledged his efforts in promoting national unity and development.

Inauguration of Anambra’s First Government House

A highlight of President Tinubu’s visit was the commissioning of Anambra State’s first-ever Government House, a milestone achieved more than three decades after the state’s creation in 1991. The new Government House, situated on a sprawling 28.8-hectare site, represents a significant upgrade from the makeshift facilities previously used for state administration.

Governor Soludo, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of the new Government House in enhancing governance and administrative efficiency. He noted that the facility would serve as a symbol of the state’s progress and commitment to effective leadership.

Launch of Additional Infrastructure Projects

Beyond the Government House, President Tinubu also inaugurated several other projects initiated by the Soludo administration. These include the dualization of major state highways, the completion of the Ekwulobia flyover, and upgrades to the Chinua Achebe International Airport to accommodate night landings. Collectively, these projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and stimulate economic growth within the state.

Governor Soludo highlighted that over 540 kilometers of roads are currently under construction, with 310 kilometers already asphalted. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to transforming Anambra into a livable, prosperous, and smart mega-city.

Transformation of Old Government House into Technology Village

In line with the state’s vision to become Nigeria’s digital and creative capital, the old Government House site is being remodeled into a technology village, dubbed the Solution Innovation District (SID). This initiative aims to nurture a thriving ecosystem for digital talent, startups, and innovative businesses across the state.

Chinwe Okoli, Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation, announced that the SID would serve as Anambra’s equivalent of Silicon Valley. The 13.7-hectare site will host various programs, including the Anambra Innovation Week, which seeks to promote growth through bold ideas, talent, technology, and invention.

Strengthening Federal-State Relations

President Tinubu’s visit to Anambra marks his second official tour of the South-East region this year, following a previous visit to Enugu State in January. The conferment of the “Dike Si Mba” title and the commissioning of key infrastructure projects underscore the strengthening relationship between the federal government and Anambra State.

In his address, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and cultural honor bestowed upon him. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity and development across all regions of Nigeria.

Conclusion

The events of May 8, 2025, signify a new chapter in Anambra’s history, marked by infrastructural advancements and strengthened ties with the federal government. The conferment of the “Dike Si Mba” title on President Tinubu reflects the state’s appreciation for his leadership and efforts in promoting national cohesion. As Anambra continues its journey towards becoming a hub of innovation and development, the collaborative efforts between state and federal authorities remain pivotal.
