Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that Governor Alex Otti’s tenure at the Abia State Government House will end in 2027, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to reclaim power in the state.
Kalu, a former Abia State governor, made the statement while addressing supporters at a political gathering, where he dismissed Otti’s political strength and experience.
According to him, the incumbent governor lacks the political skill needed to survive beyond one term in office.
Reacting to an earlier remark attributed to Governor Otti—where the governor reportedly challenged his political rivals to “write their wills”—Kalu turned the statement back on him, asserting that the APC is fully prepared for the next election cycle.
The senator described Otti as more of a technocrat than a politician, arguing that banking experience does not translate into political success. He further vowed to personally lead grassroots campaigns across Abia State, pledging to move from community to community to mobilize support against the current administration.
Kalu also expressed confidence in the electoral process, stating that Abia voters would unite to reject any form of manipulation during the 2027 polls.
However, the Abia State Government has pushed back strongly against Kalu’s comments.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Otti on Public Communication, Dodoh Okafor, dismissed the senator’s claims, predicting that Kalu would face a major political setback in the next general election.
Okafor accused the former governor of relying on external political influence rather than genuine grassroots support, suggesting that even members of the APC in Abia North may not rally behind him. According to the governor’s aide, this alleged lack of internal party confidence explains Kalu’s dependence on forces outside the state.
He further argued that Governor Otti’s ongoing infrastructure and development projects have surpassed those delivered under previous administrations, including Kalu’s tenure as governor.

Okafor maintained that the visible impact of Otti’s governance would earn him overwhelming support from Abians, securing his re-election in 2027. He also asserted that any candidate endorsed by the governor in the coming elections would emerge victorious, given the administration’s growing popularity across the state.
