Nigeria winger Alex Iwobi has broken into the Premier League’s upper tier of chance-creators this season, earning a spot in the top five most inventive players according to a new statistical ranking published by WhoScored.
The Fulham midfielder has fashioned 23 scoring opportunities so far, the highest in Marco Silva’s squad and the fifth-best tally in the entire league.
Only Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (40 key passes), Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai (28), Arsenal star Declan Rice (27) and Nottingham Forest youngster Elliot Anderson (25) have created more.
Iwobi’s growing confidence on the ball has also produced end results.
He has chipped in with two goals and two assists across 15 Premier League appearances, underlining his importance since making the €25.7 million switch from Everton two years ago.
After delivering the most prolific league campaign of his career last season—finishing with nine goals and six assists—the 27-year-old has continued to mature into a central figure for the Cottagers.
With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations approaching, Iwobi’s form could prove vital for the Super Eagles. The midfielder, who has already earned 86 caps and scored 10 international goals, is widely expected to be named in Nigeria’s final squad, alongside fellow internationals Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze.
FIFA has set December 15 as the deadline for clubs to release players for AFCON duty. Nigeria will set up camp in Egypt from December 10, where an informal warm-up game against the hosts is planned for December 16.
