Alex Iwobi Clarifies Viral Hotel Video Ahead of Nigeria vs Gabon Clash

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has broken his silence over a viral hotel video that sparked outrage among Nigerian football fans, clarifying that the short clip was misunderstood and did not depict the national team’s official accommodation in Morocco.

Earlier this week, a brief video shared online appeared to show a dilapidated building near where the Super Eagles are based ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon.

Many social media users assumed the footage showed the team’s hotel, slamming it as unfit for a national side and likening it to a student hostel.

However, team officials have since debunked those claims.

According to Promise Efoghe, the Super Eagles’ media officer, the players are comfortably lodged at the Rive Hotel, a modern facility in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.

“What trended earlier was simply a view of an old building visible from a window,” Efoghe clarified. “The Rive Hotel was selected for its convenience — it’s close to both the training ground and the match venue.”

Iwobi, who plies his trade with Fulham FC in the English Premier League, also took to Snapchat to explain that his post had been misinterpreted.

“I didn’t even say anything — I just showed the view,” the 28-year-old said. “People are acting like we complained, but I never said one word. It’s all about perspective. Some people don’t even have beds.”

The midfielder added that he was fully comfortable in his room and focused on the task ahead.

“Bro, I’m comfy. I’m playing Mario Kart,” Iwobi joked. “Anyway, let me go and focus. I’ve got a big game coming up.”
