The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday officially commissioned its new national secretariat in Wuse 2, Abuja, marking a significant step in the opposition coalition’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony was led by former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, David Mark, who was joined by prominent political figures, including former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and Senator Dino Melaye.
Addressing party members, Mark called on the ADC and the wider opposition coalition to remain steadfast as Nigeria approaches the next election cycle.
He said, “Let it be known that this coalition of national political opposition groups is about more than winning power. It is a concerted effort to rebuild the crumbling pillars of Nigeria’s democracy. The mission is clear: Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people.”
The ADC was formally adopted as the platform for the opposition alliance on July 2, 2025, positioning the party as the main vehicle to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Mark criticized the APC-led federal government, accusing it of undermining democratic institutions and eroding political pluralism.
He claimed that over the past two years, the administration has driven the country toward a “creeping descent into total civilian dictatorship,” focusing on politicking at the expense of governance.
He added, “The blatant destabilization and infiltration of all major opposition parties are aimed at one objective: total state capture, leaving Nigerians with no alternative in 2027. This coalition exists to prevent our country’s descent into a one-party state.”
The coalition supporting the ADC brings together high-profile political figures, including 2023 presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar (PDP) and Peter Obi (Labour Party).

Other notable members include former Youth Minister Solomon Dalong, publisher Dele Momodu, Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe (LP), former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd).
During the event, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu formally handed over the leadership and presented party membership cards to Mark and Aregbesola, who were appointed as interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
