The Accord Party (AP) has dismissed recent reports suggesting internal disputes, calling the rumors “completely unfounded” and the work of “political opportunists” and opposition agitators.
In a statement, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, Spokesperson for the Forum of State Chairmen (South West) and Chairman of Accord in Ogun State, emphasized that the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, has not been suspended, contrary to circulating online claims.
He said, “The rumor claiming that our National Chairman, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Esq., has been suspended is entirely false. At our National Executive Committee meeting held on December 3, 2025, a vote of confidence was passed not only on the National Chairman but also on the entire National Working Committee. At no point was any disciplinary action taken against him.”
Rotimi stressed that Accord remains a law-abiding and constitutionally guided party, asserting, “No baseless allegation can create chaos within our ranks.”
The statement also addressed misleading claims propagated by former Presidential Candidate, Prof. Chris Imumolen. A faction reportedly led by Imumolen had criticized Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent defection to Accord, labeling it a “back-door entry” and questioning the legitimacy of his position as the party’s governorship candidate.
Hon. Rotimi clarified that Prof. Imumolen had been formally expelled from the party for repeated anti-party conduct. These included attempts to usurp leadership, interfering with party structures, forcefully entering the national secretariat in 2024, and generally sowing internal confusion. “It is laughable that an expelled member still claims authority. Any statements from his camp hold no weight and do not represent Accord,” he stated.
On his part, Pastor Victor Akande, State Chairman of Accord in Osun, reaffirmed the validity of Governor Adeleke’s membership and candidacy. He confirmed that Adeleke formally joined the party on November 6, 2025, received official recognition on December 9, and emerged as the party’s governorship candidate following the primary on December 10.

Pastor Akande challenged political opponents to focus on achievements rather than social media rhetoric. “Elections are determined at the ballot, not on social media. Those serious about governance should showcase their track record. Accord is synonymous with Osun State, and our commitment to the people is unwavering,” he declared.
