President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his sympathy to victims of the Abuja–Kaduna train accident that occurred on Tuesday, describing the situation as both distressing and unacceptable.
The derailment, which disrupted operations on the popular intercity rail line, has once again sparked public concerns about Nigeria’s rail safety.
Tinubu Speaks From Abroad
In a message shared via his X handle, the president, who is currently in Brazil for bilateral engagements, said:
“I am deeply saddened by this incident. My heartfelt prayers are with the injured, their families, and all passengers who went through this distressing experience.”
Tinubu explained that he is receiving detailed reports and will act decisively once the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) submits its findings.
“The NRC is already addressing the situation, and necessary steps are expected to be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he added.
Frontpagenews.ng reports that preliminary findings confirmed that six passengers sustained injuries while many others escaped unhurt.
National Response and Safety Concerns
The president reiterated that Nigeria’s railway modernization plan would not be derailed by such setbacks. He promised that his administration would prioritize passenger safety, rehabilitation of affected infrastructure, and accountability.
