The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Jamilu Saidu for allegedly killing 30-year-old Iliyasu Aminu during a wedding ceremony at the Kumbashi District in Mariga Local Government Area.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, when a fight broke out between two villages, Yabawa and Ungwar Sarkin-Daji, escalating tensions and disrupting the wedding celebration.

Altercation Leading to the Tragedy
According to the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the altercation spilled over to the wedding venue. During the clash, Saidu allegedly struck Aminu on the head with a machete, leading to the victim’s death.

“On January 18, 2025, at about 8 p.m., police operatives of Bangi Division arrested one Jamilu Saidu of Kumbashi District, Mariga LGA, for the culpable homicide of Iliyasu Aminu, 30, of the same area,” Abiodun stated.

Confession and Next Steps
Saidu has reportedly confessed to the crime and is now in police custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
