Two unidentified Nigerians have been arrested in Kuwait by the General Department of Criminal Investigation in Ahmadi Governorate, on suspicion of being involved in an armed robbery at an exchange office in Mahboula, Kuwait City.

Robbery Details and Investigation

The suspects were apprehended within 24 hours of the robbery, which was captured in a 35-second video. The video, viewed by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, shows one of the suspects wearing a hooded top, exiting a white car and entering the exchange office. Inside, the suspect is seen pointing what appears to be a gun at the exchange office staff.

The suspects reportedly stole foreign currencies worth 4,600 Kuwaiti Dinars, approximately $14,918.69, based on currency conversion rates.

The investigation revealed that the gang had meticulously planned the robbery, monitoring the exchange office from nearby rooftops to identify peak times. They also used stolen license plates to conceal the identities of the vehicles involved.

Arrest and Confession

After his arrest in Mahboula, one of the suspects, whose name was not disclosed, confessed to having surveyed the location and informed his accomplice when the office was clear of customers. The second suspect was apprehended at Al-Qurain Market, where the stolen money and a small bag containing the narcotic substance ‘crystal meth’ were recovered from his residence.

Legal Action

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior confirmed that the suspects and the seized items have been referred to the public prosecution for further legal action. This arrest comes after previous high-profile incidents involving Nigerians, including a 2019 armed robbery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the execution of a Nigerian woman for drug trafficking offenses in the same year.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding criminal activity by Nigerians in some regions and the legal actions being taken by authorities in these countries.
