Empowering Women and Youths Through Livestock Distribution
In a determined effort to combat poverty and promote economic self-reliance, Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has inaugurated the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project. This initiative, aimed at empowering women and youths, focuses on fostering entrepreneurship through livestock distribution across the state.
Governor Yusuf, speaking at the flag-off ceremony, emphasized that the programme targets vulnerable groups and seeks to create sustainable income opportunities. According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the current phase will see 7,158 goats distributed to 2,386 women across all 44 local government areas of the state. Each beneficiary will receive three goats to establish or expand their livestock business.
Beyond the goat distribution, the programme plans to roll out additional phases involving the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to both women and youths. This broader initiative is designed to diversify beneficiaries’ economic activities and strengthen their financial resilience.
