Gunmen Kill Celestial Church Prophet During Sunday Service in Ogun State

Tragedy struck on Sunday as gunmen stormed the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Eagle Parish in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing a 54-year-old prophet, Yomi Adetula, during a church service. The brutal attack left worshippers in shock and fear, casting a shadow over the peaceful religious gathering.

Attack During Worship

The incident occurred at around 10:30 AM on Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko. Eyewitnesses reported that three assailants entered the church armed with a long double-barrel gun, targeted Prophet Adetula, and opened fire. After ensuring he was down, they mutilated his head with an axe to confirm his death, leaving the congregation horrified.

One witness recounted the chilling scene:
“The attackers came in while the service was ongoing, brought out their weapon, and shot him without hesitation. They then used an axe on his head before fleeing the scene.”

Police Confirm the Incident

Ogun State Police Spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the attack in a statement, describing the scene as gruesome.
“Police officers raced to the scene and saw the lifeless body of Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old male, in a pool of blood that stained his white celestial garment. His body was riddled with bullets, and his head was mangled with an axe.”

The prophet’s remains have been moved to the General Hospital Morgue in Ilaro as investigations commence.

Assailants Flee Toward Border Area

The attackers reportedly fled toward the border area after carrying out the killing. The police are working to identify and apprehend the suspects, with Odutola assuring the public that the case is being treated with urgency.
“Normalcy has been restored while possible clues will be revealed in the coming days as investigation has been launched into this very sad occurrence,” she stated.

Community in Mourning

The attack has left the community of Idiroko in mourning, with many questioning the motive behind the prophet’s killing. Worshippers and residents have called for justice and increased security to prevent further violence in the area.

This incident underscores the growing concern over violent crimes in religious and public spaces. The Ogun State Police Command has urged anyone with information about the attackers to come forward and assist with the investigation.
