A young woman identified as Lucy, who had been reported missing on January 5, was found dead in her apartment along NNPC Road in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Discovery of Lucy’s Body
The grim discovery was made by a co-worker who had been sent to check on her after she failed to report to work. According to a Facebook post by Harrison Gwamnishu, the Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilisation to the Delta State Governor, Lucy’s absence from work raised concerns among her colleagues.
Gwamnishu narrated, “At her workplace, they started looking for her on January 5. They called her number, but it was not reachable. The management then sent someone to check her residence to find out why she had not been coming to work.”
When the co-worker arrived at her apartment, they found the door locked. Peeking through the window, they saw Lucy’s lifeless body lying on the floor, prompting them to raise the alarm.
Signs of a Struggle
The scene inside the apartment pointed to a violent death. Gwamnishu disclosed that Lucy’s body was found naked, with visible marks suggesting a struggle. “Upon investigation, it was discovered that there were marks on her body. Her finger was cut with a knife, her hair was scattered on the floor, and there was blood everywhere,” he said.
Preliminary findings suggest Lucy was brutally murdered in her home.
Call for Justice
Harrison Gwamnishu called on the Delta State Police Command to thoroughly investigate the case and bring those responsible to justice. He also urged residents to take threats to their lives seriously and report such cases promptly to authorities.
“Nobody knows who killed Lucy. We are praying that the Delta State Police Command, headed by CP Abaniwonda, will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter,” Gwamnishu said. He advised young women in Asaba to report any threats to their safety, emphasizing, “Do not take any threat as a minor threat. Take them seriously and report the person.”
Police Confirm Incident
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident during an exclusive interview with FRONTPAGE. “The incident is confirmed, and an investigation is ongoing,” Edafe stated.
Community Reacts
The discovery of Lucy’s death has sent shockwaves through the NNPC Road community and beyond. Neighbors and residents expressed their dismay at the incident, urging the police to ensure swift justice.
