Yusuf Abubakar, a plastic collector, has reportedly lost his left wrist following a brutal attack by suspected hoodlums in Isara Remo, Ogun State. The incident occurred in the Sapaade area of the community on Tuesday, leaving Abubakar severely injured while two of his colleagues narrowly escaped.
Hoodlums Attack Plastic Collectors
According to sources within the Ogun State Police Command, Abubakar, a resident of Toll Gate in Ogere Remo, was in the area with his colleagues to collect used plastics when they were ambushed by a group of about 20 armed hoodlums. The attackers were reportedly wielding dangerous weapons and began pursuing the collectors.
While two of the collectors managed to escape unharmed, Abubakar stumbled during his attempt to flee. The hoodlums seized the opportunity to overpower him, dragging him into a nearby forest.
Victim’s Ordeal
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and recounted Abubakar’s harrowing experience.
“According to Abubakar, he arrived in Ogun State three days ago. On January 6, 2025, around 8:00 AM, he and his colleagues were in the Sapaade area picking used plastic water bottles when approximately 20 armed hoodlums began chasing them with dangerous weapons. While his colleagues escaped, he stumbled, and the hoodlums tied his hands and legs, blindfolded him, and dragged him into the bush,” Odutola stated.
In a gruesome act, the attackers severed Abubakar’s left wrist before leaving him for dead. Despite his injuries, Abubakar managed to seek medical attention at a nearby hospital before reporting the incident to the police.
Investigation and Community Safety
Following Abubakar’s report, the police visited the scene of the attack, but no signs of human activity were found in the area. Odutola urged residents of the community to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities to enhance security.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the Sapaade area. In December 2023, FRONTPAGE reported that the community, particularly students of Gateway Polytechnic ICT, had been plagued by cult-related killings and armed robberies. These incidents have resulted in numerous deaths and widespread trauma among residents.
Call for Action
This latest incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the region. Authorities are encouraged to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks. The police also appeal to residents to cooperate by providing timely information to assist in combating crime.
Abubakar’s ordeal is a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unchecked criminal activities and the importance of collective efforts to safeguard vulnerable members of society.
