A joint operation between the Nigerian Police and a private security outfit, Base SAN Security Nigeria Ltd, hired by the Kogi State Government, has led to the arrest of four kidnappers who had been terrorizing the Ajaokuta area of the state. The operation also resulted in the rescue of 10 kidnap victims, marking a significant breakthrough in the state’s fight against crime.

Arrest of Notorious Criminals

The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed the development in Lokoja on Tuesday, describing the arrest as a decisive victory against criminal elements operating in the region. He revealed that the suspects had been responsible for a series of heinous crimes, including kidnapping, robbery, and sexual assault, which had created fear and instability in the Ajaokuta area.

Fanwo stated, “The kidnappers, who have been terrorizing the Ajaokuta area, committing various crimes including kidnapping, rape, and robbery, were arrested following collaborative efforts between the police and the private security outfit, Base SAN Security Nigeria Ltd.”

Rescue of Victims

The joint operation, carried out based on credible intelligence, overpowered the kidnappers and led to the rescue of 10 victims who had been held captive by the gang. The rescued individuals are now in the process of being reunited with their families.

“The arrest of these four criminals is a testament to the effectiveness of the collaboration between government-registered private security firms and traditional law enforcement. The victims, rescued from different parts of Kogi East, are being safely returned to their families,” Fanwo added.

Government’s Commitment to Safety

Fanwo emphasized the commitment of the Kogi State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Ododo, to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. He highlighted the administration’s strategy of integrating private security firms with conventional law enforcement agencies to combat crime effectively.

“Governor Ododo is resolute in his promise to make Kogi State the safest in Nigeria. The centrality of our state to the nation means we have a duty to set an example in security. The administration will deploy every resource to rid the state of criminal elements,” Fanwo declared.

He further praised the partnership between the police and Base SAN Security Nigeria Ltd, which he said was already yielding tangible results.

Warning to Criminals

The commissioner issued a stern warning to criminals operating within the state, stressing that the Ajaokuta operation was a signal of the government’s zero tolerance for crime. “The arrest of these kidnappers should serve as a warning to others. The current administration is fully committed to ensuring that Kogi is safe for residents, travelers, and businesses alike,” he said.

Fanwo also reiterated the administration’s determination to continue supporting security agencies in their efforts to maintain law and order. “The state government will provide all necessary support to ensure the safety of lives and property in Kogi,” he concluded.

Appreciation for Security Efforts

The state government expressed gratitude to the Kogi State Police Command and Base SAN Security Nigeria Ltd for their professionalism and effectiveness in apprehending the criminals and rescuing the victims.

The successful operation highlights the importance of synergy between government, law enforcement, and private security providers in tackling crime. Kogi State is setting an example for other regions by leveraging all available resources to combat criminal activities and ensure public safety.
