Bello El-Rufai, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and current House of Representatives member for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has denied claims that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided his residence and discovered substantial funds in various currencies.

In a statement released on Wednesday, El-Rufai labeled the allegations as “false” and a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation and distract from his public service. The rumors, which suggested that EFCC agents uncovered $800 million, ₦700 billion in cash, and ₦1 trillion worth of drugs at his alleged residence in Kaduna, were dismissed as baseless.

El-Rufai clarified that he does not own a residence in Kaduna apart from the family home in Unguwar Sarki, where he has lived since birth. He described the allegations as a deliberate effort to mislead the public, stating, “My constituents know what would happen if I were blessed with such figures. For those sponsoring these ignorant attacks, I assure you we will continue to serve the people with quality, frank, and honest representation.”

The lawmaker expressed his determination to challenge the spread of fake news, asserting that such defamatory claims were an affront to justice and fairness. “The use of fake news to manipulate public perception and instigate discord is reprehensible,” he added.

El-Rufai also announced plans to pursue legal action against certain media outlets involved in propagating the rumors. He stated that any monetary compensation awarded from lawsuits would be redirected to developmental projects in Kaduna North.
