Nigeria’s Super Eagles have experienced a significant decline in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking for November, falling eight places from 36th to 44th globally, marking the steepest drop among the ranked nations. In Africa, the team slipped from 4th to 5th place, reflecting their recent underwhelming performances.

The drop in rankings is attributed to disappointing results in the final matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. In November, the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Benin Republic in Côte d’Ivoire and suffered a 1-2 home defeat to Rwanda in Uyo.

Morocco retained their position as Africa’s top-ranked team, followed by Senegal, Algeria, and Egypt in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Nigeria’s decline positions them just outside Africa’s top four, intensifying the pressure on the team as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.

Globally, Argentina continued to dominate the rankings, holding the top spot, followed by France in second and Spain in third. England and Brazil rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

The latest rankings account for a packed international football schedule, including World Cup 2026 qualifiers, AFCON 2025 matches, and Nations League fixtures, highlighting the competitive landscape of global football.
