The African Indigenous Language Film Festival (AILFF’24) is scheduled to take place from December 12 to 14 at the Amphitheatre in the Film Village, Asaba, Delta State. The festival, which celebrates films produced in indigenous African languages, aims to spotlight the continent’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.

Renowned academic and media expert, Prof. Joyce Ogho Ogwezi, will deliver the keynote address at the event. Her discussion, titled “Cultural Politics in Pixels: The Interplay Between Social Media and Film Representation,” will delve into the nuanced relationship between social media, film representation, and cultural authenticity. She will use the casting of Idris Elba as Okonkwo in the adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” as a case study to examine issues of identity politics, cultural representation, and the influence of digital platforms on public discourse.

Prof. Ogwezi, a distinguished scholar with a Doctorate in Development Communication from the University of Ibadan, has an illustrious career marked by her contributions to peace-building, community development, and gender representation in media. Her work has earned her accolades in education and development on both national and international platforms.

The festival will feature a dynamic lineup of films, discussions, and workshops designed to celebrate the diversity of African narratives and encourage a deeper appreciation of the continent’s indigenous languages. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with filmmakers, storytellers, and cultural experts, gaining insights into the unique perspectives that African cinema offers.
