Veteran Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, popularly known as Omosexy, has shared her gratitude to God following a recent health crisis that brought her close to the brink of death. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the celebrated actress recounted her ordeal, which included an emergency surgery after experiencing intense back and chest pain, severe vomiting, and debilitating stomach discomfort.
Omotola revealed that the health scare began amidst her professional commitments, including working on her films and attending the Academy Voting Members’ screening of Gladiator II. Despite her condition, she pushed through her obligations until the situation worsened.
In the Instagram post, Omotola described how her symptoms escalated:
“Happy Thanksgiving! Please join me as I thank God for life and good health. Have you ever been told by a doctor, ‘There’s nothing more we can do at this time,’ and you still feel like you’re dying? A read…
“As you know by now, I had been getting my films ready, and after the day’s edit, I proceeded for the Academy Voting Member’s viewing of Gladiator II. But throughout the viewing, I could not sit up. Earlier that week, I had been rushed to the ER twice for intense back and chest pains that would come and go the next day. Doctors were checking for high blood pressure and intense acid reflux.
“On the second admission, after receiving drips and blood work, I was sent home to manage. Luckily, the pain subsided for a while. However, after the movie, I knew I couldn’t stay. I threw up all night until there was nothing left. By morning, the most excruciating stomach pain started, and I was rushed to the ER again—this time, straight for a CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI.
“The doctor came in and said, ‘You have to go in immediately for surgery to remove your gallbladder.’ It was so dilated that the doctors were amazed I wasn’t in even more pain.”
Omotola shared that the fight for her life began at that moment. The surgery marked a turning point, and she has since focused on recovery and gratitude.
Reflecting on her ordeal, the actress wrote, “Today, I am returning to give all the glory to God. Whether you’re in the US or not, take some time to give thanks—not only for the gift of life but the gift of good health. The gift of a complete body or a sane mind to even dream of a better day.”
Omotola, an icon in the Nigerian film industry for decades, used her experience to highlight the importance of appreciating health and the support of loved ones during challenging times. Her story resonated with her fans, many of whom expressed their relief and support in the comments.
