The Senate has received letters from President Bola Tinubu seeking confirmation of nominees for positions in the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Governing Board of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
During Thursday’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter, which listed four nominees for the Police Service Commission. The nominees include retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Buba Ringim, retired Justice Adamu Paul Galumje of the Supreme Court, Christine Ladi Dabup, and Abdulfatah Muhammed. The letter, referencing Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), noted that the appointments are part of efforts to enhance the functionality of the Police Service Commission.
In the letter, Tinubu stated, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the under-listed four nominees as members of the Police Service Commission.†He urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, adding, “Please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.â€
In another letter, Tinubu sought Senate confirmation for three nominees to the Code of Conduct Bureau. The nominees are Fatai Ibikunle, Kennedy Ikpeme, and Justice Ibrahim Buba. The letter explained that the appointments align with the constitutional provisions of Section 154(1) and paragraph 1(a) and (b) of Part 1 to the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the under-listed three nominees as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau,†Tinubu wrote. He again emphasized the need for swift confirmation and concluded the letter with assurances of his “best regard.â€
The submissions are part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to fill key roles in critical government bodies and ensure their smooth functioning. The Senate is expected to begin deliberations on the nominees and proceed with the confirmation process in the coming days.
