The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered counterfeit medicines worth ₦300 million during a raid at Tyre Village in the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State.
In a statement and accompanying photos shared on its X handle on Thursday, NAFDAC revealed that the operation led to the confiscation of fake pharmaceuticals, including Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampicloxa capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg.
The agency warned that these counterfeit medicines pose severe health risks, including treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to unknown chemical compositions.
The facility where the fake medicines were found has been placed under hold, and a suspect connected to the illegal operation has been invited for questioning as investigations continue.
This development follows a similar operation last Thursday when NAFDAC uncovered counterfeit alcohol packaging centres at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State. That raid resulted in the seizure of items valued at an estimated ₦2 billion.
NAFDAC continues to intensify its efforts to combat counterfeit pharmaceuticals and ensure the safety of Nigerians, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to unregulated drug production and distribution.
