Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved free bus services for residents through the Edo City Transport Service, aiming to enhance the welfare of citizens and ease transportation challenges across the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the initiative is part of the Okpebholo administration’s broader policy direction to improve the standard of living for Edo people.

The free bus service will operate within the Benin metropolis and extend to the three senatorial districts of the state, including both intra- and intercity routes.

“The bus services will ease transportation stress, allowing our people to move around the Benin metropolis and beyond without any additional financial burden,” the statement read.

Key areas in Edo Central, such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, and Uromi, will be covered under the scheme. Similarly, Edo North, including Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar, is fully incorporated into the plan.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration emphasized its commitment to providing accessible and affordable public services as part of its development agenda for Edo State.
