Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed rumors of his death that recently circulated on social media, affirming he is alive and well. Speaking at the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road in Osun State, alongside Governor Ademola Adeleke, Obasanjo expressed shock and disappointment over the baseless speculation.
Speaking in Yoruba, Obasanjo stated, “I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on social media. I quickly told my children and my relations that it was not true and that I was alive. Those who want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive. Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves.”
The former president criticized the misuse of technology in spreading such falsehoods, describing the rumors as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
Praise for Governor Adeleke’s Leadership
During the event, Obasanjo commended Governor Adeleke for his notable accomplishments in Osun State, praising his governance and rebutting critics who underestimated Adeleke’s capabilities.
“When he came on board, some people ridiculously said he has nothing to offer except to dance, but he has shown them that he is a good dancer and also a good performer. Governor Adeleke has delivered for the people of Osun, and I believe they will support him again,” Obasanjo said.
Governor Adeleke Reaffirms Commitment to Osun’s Development
Governor Adeleke used the occasion to highlight his administration’s strides in improving Osun State’s infrastructure, including constructing over 120 kilometers of roads, progressing flyovers in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ilesa, and redirecting efforts toward completing the Iwo-Osogbo Road.
Adeleke assured residents that these projects were achieved without incurring loans. “We only block leakages in the state’s finances, employ local content to moderate project costs, and enforce high standards,” he explained.
For the remainder of his administration, Adeleke vowed to complete ongoing projects and continue addressing the infrastructural and social needs of Osun State. He pledged to strike a balance between hard and soft infrastructure to ensure comprehensive development.
