The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) on Monday sealed the head office of Max Air Limited, alongside two other companies, over unpaid tax liabilities spanning multiple years.
Max Air Limited was shut down for failing to settle tax obligations from 2012 to 2017. Similarly, Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company’s head office on Kano-Zaria Road was sealed over unpaid Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) and withholding taxes amounting to ₦241.2 million for 2021 and 2022. Northern Rice and Oil Milling Nigeria Limited, located in Gunduwawa Industrial Estate, was also affected by the enforcement.
KIRS Director of Debt Management and Enforcement, Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated during the exercise that the closures followed a court order and repeated unsuccessful attempts to recover the taxes.
“We are enforcing tax compliance to ensure liabilities are paid as required by law. These companies were contacted multiple times without positive responses, which left us with no choice but to take this measure,” Abdullahi explained.
The director emphasized that the move is part of the agency’s effort to strengthen Kano’s revenue base and ensure tax compliance across the state. He further warned that all sealed premises would remain closed until the outstanding debts are fully cleared.
“This enforcement will continue as a reminder of the importance of fulfilling tax responsibilities,” Abdullahi added.
The action underscores Kano State’s commitment to bolstering its revenue collection efforts and holding defaulters accountable.
