The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Sunday Abidoye, a 51-year-old man whose body was discovered in a room at Creestar Hotel, GRA, Sagamu, on Wednesday.

Command spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola revealed in a statement on Thursday that the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Oluwole. The discovery was made when hotel staff entered the room after Abidoye failed to respond to repeated knocks.

Upon arrival at the scene, detectives found the deceased’s body already placed in a car, as family members prepared to transport it to a morgue.

The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, residing in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that Abidoye had arrived in Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Godday recounted how he had visited the hotel on Monday and, after receiving no response from Room 109, requested a spare key from the hotel manager. Upon entering, he discovered his brother lifeless.

Police photographs of the scene showed the bed soaked with an unidentified liquid substance, while drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the room.

A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, disclosed that he had accompanied Abidoye the previous day to purchase nine different medications following complaints of illness.

The body has been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.

While no cause of death has been determined, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.
