Edo Governor Okpebholo Signs Revised N485.63bn Budget into Law

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday signed into law a revised Appropriation Bill totaling ₦485.63 billion. This move signals the administration’s commitment to rapid implementation of developmental projects and growth-focused governance.

Budget Breakdown

The budget, approved by the Edo State House of Assembly, allocates ₦202.65 billion for recurrent expenditures and ₦282.99 billion for capital projects. The swift passage of the bill aims to facilitate the new administration’s agenda for transformative governance.

Governor Okpebholo assumed office on November 12, 2024, succeeding the eight-year tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The budget was presented to the assembly on November 13, just a day after his inauguration, and received expedited approval.

Governor’s Remarks

Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their cooperation and prompt action.

“I want to thank you for your cooperation and the speedy passage of this bill,” the governor said. “With this momentum, Edo State is set to experience remarkable development. I see a team of dedicated individuals ready to work for the betterment of our state.”

Legislative Support

The ceremony was attended by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and other members of the state legislature. Agbebaku reiterated the assembly’s dedication to supporting the governor’s vision and ensuring a seamless transition of governance.

“The 8th Assembly expedited the passage of this appropriation law to allow the new administration to commence its projects without delay,” the Speaker noted. “Government is a continuum, and we are committed to fostering development for the people of Edo State.”
