The Kano State Police Command has arrested 82 suspects linked to various crimes committed across the state between November 1 and November 14. The arrests were part of an intensified crackdown on criminal activities, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.
Speaking at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, Kiyawa detailed the outcomes of the crime-busting strategy adopted by the police under the leadership of State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo. He said the operation targeted criminal networks, including kidnappers, armed robbers, thugs, phone snatchers, and drug dealers.
“The implementation of these strategies led to significant successes, including the curtailing of thuggery (Daba) activities within Kano Metropolis, dismantling armed robbery syndicates along Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders, and foiling kidnapping incidents along Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders,” Kiyawa said.
Items Recovered:
- Firearms: One AK-47 rifle, three locally made guns
- Weapons: 13 cutlasses, 16 knives
- Vehicles: Three motorcycles, one tricycle
- Drugs: 50 sachets of diazepam tablets, 42 sachets of tramadol tablets, 24 parcels and 175 wraps of suspected cannabis
- Electronics: 10 mobile phones
The commissioner emphasized that these arrests and recoveries underscored the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Kano State. He noted that the success of these operations was bolstered by a multifaceted approach that included community policing, strategic communication, intelligence-led efforts, and targeted clearance operations.
Enhanced Operational Capacity
Commissioner Dogo also expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Yusuf for donating 78 patrol vehicles to the command, which have significantly improved operational efficiency and response times.
The police pledged to continue strengthening security measures, particularly in border areas, to dismantle criminal networks and ensure public safety in the state.
