The Kano State Government has established a seven-member committee led by Hisba Board Commander General Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa to oversee the repatriation of Almajiris to their home states. Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of Governor Abba Yusuf, emphasized the importance of this initiative for maintaining state security. Bichi expressed concerns over the rise in street children occupying public and private properties, noting potential links to crimes arising from the influx of people fleeing insecurity in other regions.

“The state government is committed to preserving Kano’s peaceful environment by addressing street children, who will be repatriated to their places of origin,” Bichi stated. Sheikh Daurawa, speaking for the committee, acknowledged the recent incidents involving street children as a sign of underlying challenges that require immediate intervention.

In a separate development, the state government has concluded its case against Shafi’u Abubakar, 38, accused of arson, culpable homicide, and attempted murder. Abubakar allegedly set fire to a mosque in Gezawa LGA in May, resulting in 23 deaths and serious injuries. The prosecution, represented by Salisu Tahir, presented witnesses and evidence, including the defendant’s confessional statement. The presiding judge, Malam Halhalatu Zakariyya, adjourned the case until November 19 for further proceedings.
