Panic Erupts in Jos Over Bomb Rumour, Police Confirm False Alarm

Real Estate Agent Esther Osaze Found Dead After Abduction in Delta State

This morning, residents of Jos, Plateau State, were gripped by panic as rumours of a planted bomb in the bustling Terminus area spread rapidly across social media, leading to fear-driven evacuations. The Plateau State Police Command, however, debunked the report, assuring the public it was a false alarm.

Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, clarified the situation: “At 08:20 am on November 12, 2024, we received a report of a shallow dug hole suspected to contain an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the Old JUTH fence on Murtala Mohammed Way, creating anxiety among residents.”

Following the report, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, dispatched bomb technicians from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to investigate. After a thorough examination, the team confirmed the area was safe and free of any explosive devices. CP Adesina praised residents for their vigilance and cooperation, encouraging them to resume daily activities without fear.

Cynthia Ukachukwu, a local shop owner, described the initial scene: “People were running, saying there was a bomb, so we vacated our shops. Security was present, but by 11:25 am, we were allowed to return, and the area is calm.”

The area’s history includes a tragic 2014 double bomb blast, adding to residents’ heightened sensitivity to any security threats.
