Delta Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Oboro Preyor for Misconduct; Committee to Investigate Allegations

On Tuesday, the Delta State House of Assembly suspended Mr. Oboro Preyor (PDP-Bomadi) for alleged misconduct, marking the second suspension of a lawmaker in a week following the suspension of Mr. Chukudi Edafe (Ukwuani State Constituency). The suspension, announced by Speaker Dennis Guwor during a plenary session in Asaba, was a result of a motion raised by Majority Leader Mr. Emeka Nwaobi (PDP-Aniocha North), which was seconded by Mr. Matthew Omonade (APC-Ughelli North I).

Preyor, who serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Special Projects, is suspended for 14 legislative days. In his announcement, Speaker Guwor indicated that a committee would be established to investigate the misconduct allegations further.

“The House hereby suspends the member representing Bomadi constituency over misconduct. A committee will be set up to investigate the misconduct,” Guwor declared, directing the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort Preyor from the chamber.

In other proceedings, the Assembly received a notification from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the upcoming presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill on Thursday. Additionally, a bill proposing the renaming of Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, to Southern Delta University, Ozoro, was introduced, as conveyed in a letter from the governor.
